模型キットの新製品は今でも続々発表されています。確かにメーカーやディストリビュータの中には事業が立ち行かなくなったりで消えていく企業も少なからず見られます。しかし頻繁に新製品を世に出し、中にはそれほど大規模な事業を運営している会社ばかりではありません。それでもビジネスとして成り立つのは、それなりの規模のマーケットが存在するからです。
The new product of the plastic model kit is announced one after another. However, a plastic model maker and the distributor have the company going bankrupt. Most are not big companies. Still that those companies can maintain management is that there is some market size.
この統計は少し古いですが経済産業省のデータです。これを見てもわかるとおり日本国内に限っても2013年度以降プラモデルの出荷数は伸びています。プラモデルの需要層の多くは、モデラーと呼ばれる愛好家ですので、需要は消費動向と連動する要因を強く持っています。消費が冷え込む経済情勢が続く中で、出荷数が堅調に伸びているのは市場の特殊性が影響していると考えます。

Most of demand for plastic model are consumers called the modelers. The demand is influenced by a consumption trend. I think that the specialty of the market influences that the number of the shipment increases while consumption decreases. 
私は昔からもっぱらミリタリー系プラモデルキットやメタルキットを扱ってきました。軍用車や航空機、艦船といったところのスケールモデルが主体です。最近、カーモデルにも手を出し始めていますが、ノンスケールやガンプラの部類は今までほとんど扱ったことはありません。スケールモデルが同様に需要増とは言いがたいですが、新製品の発表状況からして確実に需要は堅調と考えられます。
I treated military plastic model kit and a metal kit until now. It is scale models such as a military car and plane, the vessels. I began the car model, but have not treated the non-scale and plastic model of Gundam so far. I do not know whether the demand for scale model increases. But, I think that the demand increases surely because there is much announcement of the new product.
近年のプラモデル市場の変化は、購買層の高年齢化に伴う製品単価の高価格化、ガンプラ/キャラクター系の市場拡大、海外生産、海外メーカーの加速化、金型技術の向上による高品質製品の実現といったところでしょう。この中でも購買層の拡大のひとつである高年齢層の拡大が市場に対して大きな影響を与えていると思われます。
I think the change of the recent plastic model market to be the following reasons.
1)Because there are many older age consumers, a kit is high-priced.
2)The market expansion of a plastic model of Gundam kit and the character kit.
3)Expansion of the offshore production and the expansion of the overseas maker.
4)The quality improvement by the die technology.
Particularly, I think that the expansion of older age consumers has a big influence on the market.
