The healing of silence
In search of hot springs and delicious food, we once again head to Hokuriku.
This time we headed north on the Hokuriku Expressway to Eiheiji Temple. Unfortunately it was raining, but there were few visitors. We could feel the dignified Zen atmosphere.

We started climbing in the rain, aiming for Atago Kannon Hall at the back of the temple grounds, above Jakkoen. The trail was steep, and the descent was muddy and extremely dangerous.
Despite the unfortunate weather, the autumn leaves were at their best… We safely descended the mountain and ate soba noodles and sesame tofu.
The nearby Prefectural Dinosaur Museum was crowded with many people, mostly families with children, but the scale and quality of the exhibits was impressive. It’s a great place to learn about the evolution of living things.
We had dinner at Kanazawa Omicho Market, and since the rain had stopped, we strolled around eating taiyaki. Kanazawa’s specialty is, of course, sweets.
I filled up my DBA-BM5FP, which I’ve been driving for about 10 years, for what will likely be the last time, and stayed overnight in Tonami.
The next morning we headed for Itoigawa.
On the way, we stopped off in Kurobe to buy rice and vegetables. It was sunny until Oyashirazu, but then it started raining heavily. We arrived at our destination just after 1:00 PM, and fortunately the rain had stopped. We bought two crabs, but were given about five crabs as a bonus.
I received a points card that has no expiration date.
We ate crab in silence for about two hours, then headed to Ikaho via Nagano. We took a third hot spring bath, following last night and this morning, and when we remembered that we had work the next day, the trip came to an end. As usual, it was a hectic schedule. It was hot this year, but autumn seems short. I was relieved that there was no snow.
